Bad News for Me and Polar Bears as the Ice Caps Melt

As I sit at my computer and look at images of Polar Bears treading across broken pieces of ice I think of what we have done and wonder what will be their future. Am I watching the curtain call for the bears or am I looking at the preview of an environmental apocalypse that I helped create but now am too foolish to stop?

Charles Darwin Speaks of the Nature of Human Morality (Gerry Goeden)

A moral being is one who is capable of reflecting on his past actions and their motives - of approving of some and disapproving of others.

                                                             Charles Darwin

The overfishing of sharks comes to mind. Between 7,000 and 31,000 sharks are caught each hour of the day and many species are now classed as endangered.

At some future period, not very distant as measured by centuries, the civilized races of man will almost certainly exterminate, and replace the savage races throughout the world.

                                                           Charles Darwin

While Darwin spoke of man, there is little doubt that the same applies to other "savage" species. We are indeed changing the order of Nature.

Basking sharks are harmless and killed only for their fins.
